Growing Pains

The charcoal in this piece was gathered from the aftermath of wildfires on the mountain above Kalk Bay, Cape Town. Returning to the area after the fires had passed, I encountered both devastation and renewal—mourning the loss while anticipating the emergence of bright new shoots. This piece reflects the tension or growing pains of transformation, both internal and external, in the wake of destruction and rebirth.
